KNR 171 is a wonderful class to take because you could learn so much from talking to people to learning new classmates.

This class has taught me so much in life, from learning more about being a leader to making new friends this class has taught me how to learn to become a leader in the real world. A big example is that when in groups you should always communicate on how to get good ideas and work as a team.

The collaboration i have learned during class is that you should always make sure you are on the same page when it comes to being a group. You wanna make sure everyone agrees. For me I never been confident in creating ideas and learning as you go but this class definitely changed that and i think it’s because of how i learned from my classmates.

Being an effective facilitator is hard work but once you get it it’s a piece of cake. What I’ve learned from being a facilitator is that you can get creative when drawing up ideas. What i learned is i would create something everyone loves depending on the age group and apply that to my plan and go on from there. It was a success from learning how to do a facilitate now that i know how to i can learn and grow in the future from creating ideas and know what to do.

I don’t think I would change what I put down earlier in the semester because I really think i did a good job in doing what was said. What i will do is grow from what was said and learn and keep becoming a better person from the question that i wrote down.

Taking this class will help me in future because with me going into the recreation it will help me with what I could be doing and that could be facilitating or something else with this class it has taught me so much in life and I’m excited for the future knowing that I’ve learned so much from this class.

With the semester winding down there are some things that i would be working on during the summer. I would like to learn what I did in class a take that and use it for a summer camp or something along that line.

Lastly, taking this class has helped me become a leader in and out of the classroom. I’ve began to realized that outside of the classroom my leadership skills have began to grow because of this class. I’m going continue to grow as a leader at my time at ISU and learn from what works best for me and what doesn’t work for me.

Hello my fellow peers, I am writing my 2nd ever blog on what it was like to volunteer at The YMCA.

Volunteering is very important to me because it means i can help the community out. During these difficult times It also helps me know that I’m doing good in the community. I volunteered at the YMCA which is a Non-Profit organization that helps kids out and make sure they get to have fun. I loved being able to help these kids out and just watching them smile and run around was the best moment of the day.

In my mind the main aspect of doing this was too help out what needed to be helped out with so when i got there stuff needed to be set up and I helped with the set up.

When running the event everything was very organized and nicely put together. In one area we had games running like for example someone was running a baseball game while in another corner we had a hopscotch game running and in the next corner we had a person telling kids what they wanted to do when they grew up so we had a very nice organization of activity set up. There were about 5-10 volunteers during the day i went each person was in charge of the activity and if we had a question we would ask a supervisor.

So when i got there i asked if you needed any help and they said yes so what i did was asked what they needed and they told me that today was a play day and activity session. They asked me if I played any sports and i said baseball so what i did is that i explained to the kids on how baseball is played and that they should play the best game in the world. I also asked the kids what their favorite baseball team was and some said cubs and some said cardinals. Being able to connect with the kids was a wonderful moment because it got me thinking that i could do this one day and teach my kids to volunteer. I would go back and do more activities instead of just talking about baseball. However with that being said I would 100% go back and do it again i learned a lot while I was there.

If i was in charge of running the session i would keep it simple, which would be just talk and teach about one thing while we had people helping us out i feel like they would get more out of it.

With all of this being said, I learned so much doing this. It helps me in the future and what i could do down the road and it helps me with my future classes because i now know what this means and how volunteer helps the community and workplace. The YMCA will be around for a long time because they have a great workplace and a great staff that runs it.

What I learned being apart of this group helped me learn a lot of volunteering in ways that it will help me down the road. Now that I’ve done the volunteering I would recommend to anyone to volunteer and go help the community and meet new people.

Competition in my own words mean that you “go hard at what you are doing and you either win or you get done first”: (Alec Coontz,Gallup) “Consistency means to me that you always do good at what you are getting done”: (Alec Coontz,Gallup)Maximizer means to “be better than average go above and beyond”:(Alec Coontz,Gallup) Futuristic to me means “You wanna see the future I see myself looking into the future”:(Alec Coontz,Gallup) Lastly Communication to me means “speak well to people and describe what you are doing”:(Alec Coontz,Gallup).
3. My strength that I would have to pick is maximizer because you should always be better than average especially for me because I always wanna go above and beyond.

1. Effective leadership means that a person has a passion to do what needs to be done. Someone with a dream to get stuff done
2. My experiences as a leader goes a long way spanning for 4 years because I’ve always been a leader at work and a leader on the baseball field.
3. My personal leadership approach has gotten better over the last few years because entering high school i was shy and nervous and over those years I’ve learned so much from school and sports and just life in general to be a leader.
4. Three qualities that I have is that i can make good decisions when it comes to a very key moment in life or a play or work. Another strong quality I have is that I am always honest to everyone and to me that makes you a very important leader. Finally, commitment and passion to me is a very important aspect to become a leader because I’m always committed to be doing something and want to finish it.

Future Self

Dear My future self, I am writing you this so you can go back and realize how much you have grown as a leader. I always want to help others out and help them get to what they want to get to or finish what they started. Helping people is important to a leader and it’s very important to me. At the end of this semester you will grow as a communicator because by the end of the class you will be friends with everyone in class and you will talk to each person every class period. Hoping to learn everyone name is very important and you will learn their name by the end of the semester. Lastly being a teammate is in your blood you have always been a teammate on and off campus. By the end of this semester everyone will look up to you as a teammate and they will become your friends because of what you learned in the classroom and outside of the classroom. Each class period you will learn by groups and group pairing and how you are the same and how you work together to become friends.
